Depending on age, the human body consists of 60-80% of water. It is an inevitable part that ensures body functioning. To be super toned your body requires some amount of water a day. European scientists claim that it needs 3-4 pints a day. Japanese scientists think that this number is no less than 6 pints a day.
The role of water
Water plays a few roles in the human body:
- Dissolves substances
- Transfers nutritious elements to the cells
- Clears the body of chemical waste
We can make a conclusion that the more junk food is eaten the more water our body requires to clear itself. One needs to drink water when drunk to avoid morning headaches. Many dietitians advise drinking a glass of water before eating. It will prevent you from overeating and excess pounds. But it is not entirely true. As we know, there are no calories in water, so you won’t feel satiety from it. But it will occupy a part of your belly creating a false satiety feeling. Many suggest drinking water when on a diet since it clears the body of chemical waste. And this is true. It will speed up your weight loss.

- When your body lacks water, it intensely produces histamine that helps to distribute the remained water around the body in the better way. Too much histamine causes allergies. So if you suffer from any allergies drink as much water as your body needs.
How much water should you drink a day to lose weight?
Drink water to lose weight. It is a way of tricking and cleaning your body. The amount of water is calculated in the following way: 0.5 oz. per 1 pound. You can count it by yourself. It is not advised to drink more than this norm.
Start from 1 glass or cup of water a day (in the morning before you have anything at all to eat). Divide evenly the rest of the amount, considering the breaks between food intakes. Drink water 30 minutes before eating and 1-1.5 after eating. Don’t rush, take small sips. If you really want to lose weight, drink only clean water. Tea, coffee, and soda won’t help. If you have never drunk so much water a day before, don’t force it on your body. Start with a small amount, gradually increasing it. In time your body will adapt and you will be able to (and will need to) drink as much water as you require.
To remember that you need to drink water, put the bottle with it somewhere you can always see it. That way you will never miss your water intake. If you drive a lot, take the bottle of water with you – it will always remind you of the diet. You can also use water drinking apps that will calculate the amount of water you need to drink a day (according to your body weight, weather temperature, and physical activity) and it will alarm you when it is time to take another drink. But keep in mind that you won’t be able to lose weight with drinking water only. Remember about healthy eating and doing sports.
